Your Dimension of Greatness

Life is what we make it. Our future destined upon in our hands on how we can improve our lives to the fullest heights of success. In this world full of challenges, trials, and hardships, only the strong minded person are capable to change his destiny and conquer the impossible!

Beginning today, I will improve myself. I will cultivate my mind to have a dream and vision for my life. Life is so short therefore, I will motivate myself to improve and polish my attitude, character, and relationship with other people because this is the only assets and keys that I can win and gather the love, the support, and the respect from them, enable me to reach the top of the ladders of my goals and dreams.

Beginning today, if I feel inferior, if I feel insecure, and if I feel self-pity, I will remind myself with these words:

No one can know the potential of a life that is committed to win. With courage, the challenge its faces to achieve great success in the end!

So explore the dimension of greatness and believe that the world can be won by a mind that fully committed and knowing the task can be done!

Your world has no place for the skeptic, No room for the doubter to stand, to weaken your firm resolution that you can excel in this land!

You must have vision to see your potential and faith to believe that you can. Then courage to act with conviction to become what God meant you to be!

So, possess the strength and the courage to conquer whatever you chose. It’s the person who never gets started, that is destined forever to lose!

Beginning today, I will strive myself to become a man of excellence and valor. If I’ll experience defeat and failure, I will encourage myself to repeat and repeat these words again and again:

If you think you are beaten, you are!

If you think you dare not, you don’t!

If you’d like to win but you think you can’t, it’s certainly you won’t.

Life battles are not always go to stronger or faster man.

But sooner or later, the man who wins is the man who thinks he can!

Beginning today, I will eliminate and remove from my vocabulary such words as quit, cannot, unable, impossible, improbable, failure, hopeless, and retreat for they are the words and vocabulary of the losers!

Finally, I’ll continue remind myself that the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams!

Wish you many blessings to come and God bless!

You Get What You Paid For

I fully understand what many employers are going through when they hire a freelance writer. They are looking for talent: someone who can write well, with persuasion, and keep readers interested in what is being conveyed. The real art is taking a topic that may not be of much interest to the masses, let’s say pocket bikes, and creating an article that informs and tells a story.

Recently, a customer who has used me in the past contacted me about my current availability. I mentioned that I had the time for him and was awaiting to take on his latest project. Well, it turns out the project or projects had already been assigned to two other writers who, presumably, were working on the writings but not delivering the finished work in a timely fashion. I mentioned to my customer that he should consider me for the job as I do this work full time. For the record, the series of articles to be written are very basic so I cut the employer some slack when it comes to price. Still, I imagine my price is a bit higher than some of these “authors” who may or may not be doing the work for him.

Anyway, I still haven’t gotten a final answer from this employer, but I do know two things about the writing industry: hire expertise and hire someone who does this full time for a living. Those of us who work full time at freelance writing are putting our livelihood on the lines every day. Can the same be said of someone seeking some part time income? I sincerely doubt that!

You Can't Handle The Truth!

Remember that great movie with Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise: “A Few Good Men”?

At one point, a besieged military commander, portrayed by Nicholson, shot back at his interrogator, who was trying to unveil a cover-up: “You can’t handle the truth!”

These words come to mind as I consider what’s going on in Iraq and in the battle against terror.

Can we, as American citizens, handle the truth, and what is the truth, after all?

Here’s how I see it:

(1) Terrorists want to put America out of business, period. They have no narrow, political goal, such as the “liberation of Palestine.” They hate what we stand for, whether it is the right to have a McDonald’s at every intersection, the right to worship as we please, or not, and the right to educate women.

(2) They realize their days are numbered by the amount of oil that remains underground. Once that is dissipated, they’re in deep trouble, politically and otherwise.

(3) There is a difference between fighting in Iraq and securing our borders against terrorism. By fighting there, we do not enhance our security here. Linking the two is equivalent to the domino theory that held that a fallen Vietnam would mean all of Asia would become communistic.

(4) Some Presidents have a “Vietnam Wish.” They want a shot at winning that type of unwinnable war. Now, it’s W’s turn with Iraq. Why do guys like this who never got a bloody nose become Rambo’s when they get the moniker, Commander In Chief?

(5) It’s about the oil, stupid! Do you think we’re investing all of this effort in Iraq in order to visit their art museums, hear their world-class symphonies, or bask in their five-star resorts? Who would give a hoot about this real estate if it weren’t sitting on top of what propels our SUV’s?

We wouldn’t have to fight this war if we weren’t “addicted to oil,” so let’s develop some alternatives, pronto.

Without a coherent energy policy, all we’re left with is an improvised war policy, and you can see how far that has taken us.

You Can Have What You Want

Oh, how I love my friend CJ! He’s such a gift and a blessing. I had been running around for days trying to find a copy of the original “Layla” by Eric Clapton. Forget trying to find a copy of it on audiocassette in Los Angeles. I was going to have to go to CDs, which I don’t have in my car. But I was on a hunt.

I bought a shorter version at one store. When I asked the two very young people at the front desk for information on the long version of Layla they looked at me like I was from outer space. I bought the shorter version to walk out with some semblance of maturity and composure in my 50-year old body. I felt so incredibly old.

The short version was totally unsatisfying to me. I was thirsty for the original – the entire, long experience to savor. This urge – this craving – came on me when I went into a music store to buy recording equipment that I needed. Layla was playing on the store sound system and I found myself so joyful and playful. Hearing the song brought back such wonderful memories I felt like breaking out in a dance right then and there.

Our memories can be powerfully triggered by familiar songs – in this case a reminder of one of the best times of my life. I tried to explain this to a man who was checking out and he just didn’t get it. Actually, I told him that Layla was the bride and groom dance song at my first wedding. The guy just looked at me and told me that probably was why we weren’t married

anymore, even with a small smile that showed me he was thinking of a special time, too. Not true! We had a great party and a fabulous wedding!!!

I had to call my ex-sister-in-law, the sister of the man I’d married, to ask the title of the album for the original song. I vaguely remembered it was a Derek and the Dominoes gem, but couldn’t place the title. She laughed when she told me the album was – are you ready? – Layla. Go figure.

After the shorter, unfulfilling version, I went out to another record store and could only find the newer version. Not the same. I was on my cell phone driving home and shared all of this with my friend CJ, who listens to me through my sorting out the pieces of life and never fails to offer incredibly inspired guidance.

“You CAN have what you want, you know.” He told me I didn’t have to settle for less than anything in my life. He assured me that if I wanted the original version, I could absolutely have it. Then, he suggested I go to a store and get it. He even told me the store that he thought would carry it, even though he lives 300 miles away.

As soon as I hung up with CJ, I called the store and – yes! – they had what I wanted. I went to pick it up and played it on repeat for hours that day. It was glorious. I danced and laughed and got in touch with a part of me that was still 20 years old inside.

More important, I felt absolutely blessed to have a wonderful friend who tells me the truth, who reminds me of my greatness, who encourages me not to settle. God knows I’ve done that enough in my life.

It’s important to remember that you CAN have what you want in life if you choose to see that option and are willing to take the actions.

Be grateful that you have the choice and, remember, YOU deserve it!

Why Your Spelling Doesn't Matter

Do you find it strange that I'm a writer and yet
occasionally, you'll find simple words in my daily e-mail
messages, and the spelling of them is completely wrong?

Know why this happens (besides the fact that I'm not a big
"spelling" fan?

The answer is simple: First, sometimes misspelling a word
every now-and-again makes you look more "human", and
anything you can do to make yourself more human, also lets
your prospects relate better to you.

Second, it's actually an involvement devise for many of the
people on my list.

(Oops, I meant "device" -- got 'cha.)

And as you know, if you want to sell something, getting people
involved with you -- on any level -- is always good, right?

I mean, you'd be astounded at how many people send us in
e-mails pointing out all my spelling errors -- and look,
it's not like I make hundreds of them or anything like that!
People actually seem to feel good they found spelling
mistakes made by a copywriter.

The irony of it is just too great for them to ignore.

So bluntly, having some spelling errors in my sales copy,
is... for some people on my list, a great way to get them
involved with me.

And lastly, the truth is, sometimes I just mess up!

I've got my hands in more pies than you'd ever imagine.
Between client work and my own projects, I'm involved in no
less than 10 things at any one given time.

So don't be surprised if you see a spelling error every
now-and-again in my daily e-mails -- given the volume of
work I have on my plate, it's just bound to happen.

Plus, remember -- I'm the King Of Copy, not the Sultan Of
Spelling, right?

And like Clint Eastwood said in Dirty Harry, "A man's got to
know his limitations."

Now go sell something,

When Speakers' Bureaus Don't Call

When Speakers’ Bureaus Don’t Call
Mary McKay

You probably ask yourself…Why are the bureaus not booking me? What do I have to do to get them to call me?

A bureau’s first responsibility is to satisfy the meeting planner or the organization. Put yourself in the bureau’s position. They want to place speakers who are.

• High profile personalities that have favorable reputations.

• High fee speakers: All other things equal, why not place the higher fee speaker?

• Dependable: Respond quickly to inquiries, are courteous, keep agreements and are punctual.

• Predictable: Have high ratings consistently, get standing ovations and stay on topic.

• Exclusive with them: This means that all interested organizations have to go through the bureau to book the speaker.

Here’s what you can do to increase your significance to bureaus:

1. Increase your media exposure.

Be the go-to person in your field of expertise. Generate articles and press releases demonstrating your competency and expertise. Learn to write press releases. Check out www.prweb.org. You may inadvertently get exposure through adversity, such as committing a courageous act like cutting off your arm to survive, becoming a war hero, championing a cause, etc.). Let those in your field know you have some creative solutions.

2. Utilize Internet technology to increase traffic to your website and convert that traffic to sales.

Make sure that you’ve learned the tricks of Internet Marketing to increase the traffic to your website. Check out www.powerfulpromoter.com. It’s not as hard as you think.

3. Outperform Your Competition.

Do what you do so well that you rise to the top. Become a leader in your field. When you’re a top producer, or when you lead an organization to greatness, or when you originate a new idea that solves problems and creates a new paradigm, others what to know how you did what you did. You’ll make the news.

4. Get published.

Write a book that tells your story or teaches others what you know. Every chapter can become an article. Become a columnist in a newspaper or your industry publication or trade journal. Stop procrastinating. Start writing.

5. Increase your visibility.

Become a spokesperson for an organization. Volunteer your time and talents to your favorite charity. There are many people that will surface in these post- Katrina Hurricane days that will become public figures for positive change simply because they became leaders in the crisis. Serve your professional association in some capacity, such as officer, spokesperson, board member, adviser, etc.). Write a free e-zine to your target market. Teach others how to do what you do. Be the subject of a documentary, made for TV movie or the wide screen.

6. Study others in your field of expertise.

Learn how you differ from others and be able to articulate it. Get a mentor in your field and study his/her behavior and performance. Gain the advantage through your service, product or your style of delivery.

7. Always maintain a professional attitude.

Keep your composure under stress. Bureaus aim to please meeting planners. Why not? Those same meeting planners who have a positive experience with one speaker will return many times over to the same bureau for another speaker. If you react negatively under pressure while at an event, or if you act unkindly or inconsiderate or disrespectful in a difficult situation, the word about you will spread like a virus. Bureaus have a professional association (www.iasbnet.org) and they stay in touch with each other. Maintain an attitude and presence that makes them want to call you again!

8. Create an extensive line of information products.

As a leader in your field, you’re demonstrating your ability to create solutions for others who have challenges. This increases your popular appeal. If you have a Nightingale Conant product, you have instant credibility. As long as you do not abuse of the privilege of speaking while promoting your products and services without permission, it’s an added benefit to your appearance. You may wish to give away a set of your products to the organization. One note of caution: Be careful with your product sales. If you get a reputation of pitching your product rather than delivering your designated speech, it’s the kiss of death.

Continue to promote yourself and your service without relying on bureaus. Work on serving others and pretty soon, you’ll get a call from a bureau. It’s predictable.

She systematizes the booking process to uniquely position the speaker, optimize the appearance, generate referrals and enable more revenue potential through product sales. Visit http://www.gettingpaidtospeak.com or call 949-429-6646.

When Do You Pray

When do you pray?

Prayer is the cornerstone of the Christian faith, the communication factor with God that opens us to grace, hope and the very love of God that transforms our lives.

So, when do you pray?

Think about that for a moment. Think about when you pray before you start reciting the endless list in your head about why you don't have the time to pray that you think you should, would or could, if only. Take a deep breath, and ponder this for a moment.

Did you pray at church this week? Did you say grace with you meals today, spoken or unspoken? Did you make a green light, thereby getting to work in plenty of time, and say, "Thank you, God"? Did you admire the clouds in the sky while running an errand before you picked you kids up from school? Prayer happens throughout your day, in ways that are obvious, and many that are not so apparent.

A prayer for God's help and guidance hudged between two thoughts about when to pay bills and still produce what is required at work, or a bit of extra patience listening to a friend, can both be strong prayers in simple, profound ways.

Our hopes and dreams are also prayers. Albeit not always spoken, our thoughts convey our desires to God and are as viable as the prayers in which we share at each Sunday worship service. Hebrews 11:1 states: "Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." In our hopes we communicate our faith in God, to God.

Prayer communicates to God all that we want to share with God. Praise, adoration, gratitude, hope, fear, trust, petitions, anything we want to share with God, and particularly those things we may not be able to share with anyone else are there for the giving. God listens, and God hears.

Take a moment, a pen and a piece of paper, and jot down when you prayed today, and what you prayed about and for. No judgements, just a consideration of your communication with God today.
